Jesse Corwood is a 31-year-old man living with his mother in Portland, New York. Obsessed with music and driven by a desire to create, but lacking a thriving local scene, Jesse records numerous songs by himself, invents 17 fictional bands, and meticulously documents their imaginary stories in his notebooks. Jesse's plan works when Rolling Stone takes interest in his label, Portland Records, but he struggles to maintain the illusion when the magazine requests photos and interviews with the bands.

The basic story of a young criminal not quite living up to his won ideals of "not to give a damn" sidesteps out of his criminal career while dragging his younger brother into it, could have been interesting. Unfortunately the implementation is simply not good enough. As so often with Danish movies, there is little appreciation for detail thus leaving us with hoodlums talking like they've done time at a business academy rather than a prison. Dialects completely out of here and idiosyncratic bikers without bikes or even character for that matter. An ever accelerating surrealism towards the end doesn't help to clear the slow pace of this film but it does give a glimpse of what the story could have unfolded to become.

Portland Bill is the lighthouse keeper at Guillemot Rock, alongside his two assistants Ross and Cromarty (and his small pet dog Dogger). Guillemot Rock lies offshore of the small village of McGuillycuddy. The village is so small it only has one shop and the shopkeeper takes on multiple jobs. The lighthouse is also subject to periodic inspections by Bill's superior, Inspector Ronaldsway. The lighthouse keepers have all sorts of adventures on both land and sea in this fondly remembered British children's animated series. The series takes a slightly unusual format with two stories per episode separated by a song.

Three children, two brothers and their friend, win a lottery ticket at sports forecasting. Upon deciding not to tell their parents in order to buy a ship, two criminals find out about this and try to steal their money.

Von Muller, a member of the fashionable Jockey Club, loses all his fortune, and is indebted on I.O.U. to Lang in a large sum, which he is unable to pay. Going to his room he contemplates suicide when his eye is arrested by a letter, which he opens and finds to be an invitation to a masquerade ball from Franz Oberman, a millionaire, and fellow club member. Von Muller resolves to attend. He dons the costume of a beggar. The ball is at its last ebb when a messenger hands him a note for Lang, reminding him the obligation falls due at midnight. He goes to the conservatory, and is about to end it all, but is intercepted by the host. Oberman tells him he has everything that wealth can give, but he, too, is unhappy. Taking Von Muller to his library. Oberman draws up an assignment of his entire wealth on condition that if after he has gone out into the world a poor man and does not find happiness they shall die together.
